ELIZABETH A. SAINDON
Member
Elizabeth Saindon's interest in representing
working people began while growing up in a union household where
her teacher mother and plumber father were both union members.
Since graduating law school, Ms. Saindon has represented
multiemployer benefit plans and labor organizations for nearly
thirty years. In doing so, she provides the full range of legal
services to her clients. She has counseled Trustees on a myriad of
complex issues, successfully prosecuted and defended numerous
lawsuits on behalf of her clients, successfully navigated the
IRS's VCP process, and overseen transition in her client plans'
administration, accounting and actuarial professionals. She has
also counseled plans through mergers and significant plan design
changes.
Among Ms. Saindon's notable accomplishments is her work in helping
to secure the PBGC's approval of a pre-MPRA partition request, one
of only three that PBGC ever granted, and the subsequent merger of
the surviving portion of the plan into one of our client plans.
Further, Ms. Saindon is lead counsel in the Firm's representation
of the terminated portion of the plan that is now receiving
financial assistance from the PBGC. Ms. Saindon also arranged with
the PBGC and the sponsoring union for the appointment of an
independent fiduciary to replace the Board of Trustees,
compensated by the PBGC, when those Trustees wished to resign from
the Board. Following the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act,
Ms. Saindon assisted a different client plan in its successful
effort to obtain special financial assistance from the PBGC.
Ms. Saindon has also guided plan Trustees through an investment
loss due to the fraudulent actions of one of its investment
managers. The individual managers were ultimately convicted and
sentenced to prison, and Ms. Saindon secured a full reimbursement
from the Fund's Theft and Dishonesty Policy.
Ms. Saindon earned her J.D. from American University's Washington
College of Law in 1991, where she served as Managing Editor of The
Administrative Law Journal. Ms. Saindon served as law clerk for
the Hon. Nan R. Shuker of the Superior Court of the District of
Columbia from 1991 to 1992. Ms. Saindon earned her B.S., magna cum
laude, from the University of Florida in 1988, where she was
inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
